I chose the name Kitchen NV with great intent. My name is Nicholas Vanderhovel and I could not have asked for better initials. I love kitchens and home remodeling and my favorite spaces are awe-inspiring and unique kitchens. Any salesperson can sell someone cabinets and call it kitchen design. But I believe that design should be intentional, hand crafted, and authentic to the individual you are creating for. When design is executed and implemented by a skilled professional, the space should create “eNVy.”
I have been in the kitchen and bath industry for over a decade thanks to my mother. When I was in high school, she introduced me to remodeling when she hired me to organize her cabinet warehouse and deliver cabinets. After I graduated college in 2010, my prospects were slim in a recession, so I joined a construction company installing the projects my mother was designing. Since then, a lot has changed, but my passion for learning and creating awe inspiring spaces hasn’t.
My approach to design is that every space should feel highly tailored. Even if a client is doing the classic white kitchen, I feel that there should always be something about the design, the materials, the elements that make it classically yours and slightly cutting edge. My goal is to never create two spaces that look the same, because there are no two clients that are exactly the same. Projects that present some kind of highly stylized, abnormal, out of the ordinary obstacle for me to work through are my favorite because they challenge me as a designer and allow me to explore the vast artistic reaches of my field.
Design is a constantly evolving field. Even with ten years of industry experience, I am always finding new avenues to explore. Materials, colors, industry standards, and technology are always evolving. Whether it’s entering design competitions, taking a new course, traveling the globe to visit industry shows, talking to experts in charge of various components that make a design complete, or getting a new certification, I never want to stop the search for new ways to exceed my clients’ expectations. Knowledge drives creation, and in the design industry, that is what I live to do.
I understand the investment my clients are putting into their homes, and want them to feel confident that the choices made fit their needs, style, and budget. The time we spend talking before the first hammer is swung is invaluable to the planning and installation process. During our consultation and design appointments, I will measure every inch of your space and explore your style preferences. When these meeting conclude, I will bring your new space to life with realistic renderings for us to review and refine.
